The following account examines recent revelations surrounding Bend Studio and how its internal project history might be more turbulent than previously known.
Bend Studio faced a difficult period following the launch of the highly praised and commercially successful title Days Gone for PlayStation 4. Despite the acclaim, the company did not receive approval from Sony to continue with a follow-up, a decision that contributed significantly to its troubled trajectory.
Over time, key team members have left, and numerous initiatives were both started and subsequently halted. Aside from support work, the studio has not produced any new major releases since the 2019 launch of Days Gone, and as far as is publicly known, there are currently no active projects under development.
A user on Bluesky brought additional attention to these issues by sharing details from a former employee’s professional background. This individual’s record indicates involvement in several projects that never made it to release, and a total of six separate project entries were noted:
- Cancelled or unannounced project one
- Cancelled or unannounced project two
- Cancelled or unannounced project three
- Cancelled or unannounced project four
- Cancelled or unannounced project five
- Cancelled or unannounced project six
It remains uncertain whether these six entries represent entirely distinct games or if there is any overlap between them. Moreover, it is unclear if his contributions spanned the entirety of the studio’s portfolio, meaning there could be additional projects that were never publicly acknowledged.
At present, the future direction of Bend Studio is unknown. Earlier this year, one of its projects was reportedly shut down by Sony, a decision that resulted in significant job losses among its employees.
